But here's Aria to the rescue. Aria is the much-anticipated new casino being built as part of MGM Mirage's $9 billion CityCenter.

With two major expos in town this week the poker rooms around Las Vegas should have a marked increase in players. Many of the drop-in players will be short on Vegas poker experience, others will be playing casino poker for the first time. This makes for an idea combination to give the advantage to the better poker players. Rio Las Vegas is now offering the highest comps for poker players in Las Vegas, at $3 per hour.

The next highest is at Imperial Palace at $2 per hour.

We spoke with Danielle at Rio who was extremely chipper about the promotion, saying that $3 per hour applied to all cash game players between 3 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day, then reverts to the regular $1 per hour the rest of the time.

In addition, the rake is capped at $3 between 3 a.m. and 3 p.m. That's significant in itself.

Quads of 10s and above receive a guaranteed $300, though this will change next week when Rio switches to a bad beat jackpot.

The Night Before Christmas in the Poker Room

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the poker room,

When he had taken most of our chips,

Holiday spirits fill the Conservatory

An armed robbery took place at the Sahara Hotel & Casino last Friday.

Around 6 p.m. on Dec. 19, someone held up the poker room cashier and walked away with an undisclosed amount of money.

To get to the poker room cashier, you have to walk through a row of about eight poker tables on either side. And then back out.

No poker player was robbed, and no one was harmed.

Metro is investigating.

David Rheems rode his aggressive style of play to victory in the 2008 WPT's Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio. The win gave Rheems an early Christmas present in the form of $1,538,730 in cash. He also received a $25K buy-in in the WPT Spring Championship event.

Justin Young came up one short and had to settle for second place and $936,760. Evan McNiff finished in third place for a $540,440 payday. As we predicted in yesterday's post, this day belonged to David "Chino" Rheems.

David Rheems outlasted a field of 6833 to grab a seat at the 2008 WSOP Main Event so out playing a much smaller field of 497 entrants playing in the $15K WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic appears to be a piece of cake. The six remaining players will take their seats today at 4 PM at the Mirage and do card battle until only one champion remains.

The following players with seat assignment and chip count make up the final table six. The winner will receive $1,538,730 of the $7,231,350 prize pool. This one may belong to Chino.
