The stage is set and the final nine players from a WSOP Main Event starting field of 6,865 players are now on break until the final able reconvenes November 5-7 to determine the 2011 WSOP Championship winner. The November Nine was determined in the early morning hours on Wednesday, July 20th, when John Hewitt pushed all-in and was eliminated in 10th place, $607,882.

Phil Hellmuth faces John Juanda for event win and bracelet #12
Update: Phil hellmuth was denied his 12th gold bracelet after John Juanda charged from behind to overtake and defeat Hellmuth.
All that stands between Phil Hellmuth and his 12th WSOP gold bracelet is fellow poker pro John Juanda. The two players outlasted a field of 126 in event #16, $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship.

Jack Effel, Shuffle Up and Deal!
After a seating glitch had more than one player assigned to the same seat, the 2011 edition of the World Series of Poker began it's 51 day summer run at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in las Vegas at half past noon today. With those immortal words, "Shuffle Up and Deal!," WSOP tournament director, Jack Effel, put the cards in the air for the most famous poker games of all times.

This year's 42nd annual World Series of Poker will feature a few heads-up freerolls that have never been done in WSOP history: rematches from previous WSOPs.
On Thursday, June 2 beginning at noon, three rematches will take place: Chris Moneymaker vs. Sammy Farha (from 2003), Johnny Chan vs. Phil Hellmuth (from 1989), and two mystery champions (voted on by fans).

US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has been shopping a draft of a bill to repeal The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIEGA). The UIEGA fiasco was rammed through the Senate in September, 2006, and prohibits banks and other financial institutions from transferring payments to and from illegal(?) gambling sites that operate Internet poker rooms.
