Today starts a new poker promotion at Red Rock Station.

From 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. daily, the high hand of that period in the poker room receives $1,000.

The hand must be at least Aces Full and you must play both cards.

If you share the same hand, you’ll split the prize.

The flier takes care to mention that this prize does not come from the jackpot drop, it’s funded entirely by Red Rock.

In what we hope does not start a trend, the poker room at Fitzgeralds downtown has quietly closed.

Other poker rooms, such as Silverton, have limited their hours.

Fitz had a tough time since launching their poker room upstairs a few years ago. Only attracting 1 or 2 tables worth of players, they tried tournaments, sit-n-gos, freerolls, high hand jackpots, but in the end it didn't justify the cost and was shuttered.

As we previewed before, it's now a go!

The poker room at Treasure Island (TI) is now paying people to play poker.

From Saturday at midnight to the following Saturday at midnight, put in your hours and you'll earn money. And pretty significant money at that.

Play 10 hours, get $50. 20 hours, $125. 30 hours, $200. 40 hours, $300. 50 hours, $500. And 60 hours, $599 (to avoid IRS forms at the $600 giveaway mark).

We’ve been seeing the sign advertising it in more and more poker rooms around town, and we finally downloaded the app to our iPhone (it’s also available on Android).

It’s a marvelous tool to check in on your favorite poker room to see what and how many tables are running (it also lists tournament information). If you sync to your location, you’ll see how far away the nearest poker room is as well.

Recently remodeled Tropicana Las Vegas

The new Tropicana poker room is all snazzy and comfortable (plus right next to the bar, so fast drink service), but whenever we've been by, there's only been one table running.

Trop is now trying to switch things up with special promotions, including a novel splash pot in a cash game that acts like a tournament.

Play any cash game for 15 hours between Nov. 21-27 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and you'll qualify.

M Resort offers $11,111 on Nov. 11

The M Resort, which often mimics promotions of its direct competitor Station Casinos, is offering an 11/11/11 deal of their own that trumps Station.

At all the Station and Fiesta casinos, play cash games of hold’em on Nov. 11 and flop quad Jacks (while holding pocket Jacks) and you’ll get $11,111. Get quads on the turn or river and you’ll get $1,111.

$125k poker tourney freeroll at South Point

To lull away players from Station Casinos, South Point is holding a $125,000 freeroll poker tournament on Dec. 13 and 14.

To qualify, play 100 hours of cash games now through Nov. 30. Then you'll be entered and get T2000 chips (pay $10 for T1000 more).

TI charity poker tournament

A cheap charity poker tournament event takes place tomorrow, Sept. 14, at the Treasure Island poker room.

Buy-in is $50, with a $50 re-entry in the first hour. Half the proceeds will support the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Fallen Heroes USA, Special Olympics, and Step by Step Foundation.

Other prizes will also be added to the pool, including a free 2-night stay at the Eurkea casino in Mesquite, Nevada.

The tourney begins at 7 p.m.
